A small incident can change the entire course of life! Seeing a lady giving birth in a bullock cart, Mr. C.K. Mehta, Chairman of Deepak Group of Companies thought of setting up a hospital in the Nandesari Industrial area of Vadodara. This idea materialised into the Deepak Medical Hospital, which then became the birthplace of Deepak Foundation way back in 1982. The primary aim was to provide medical and health care services to the workers and to the local community near the industrial area of Nandesari, comprising about 30 villages.
Deepak Foundation is a non-profit voluntary organization set up by Deepak Group of Companies (Deepak Fertilizers and Petrochemicals Corporation Limited and Deepak Nitrite Limited) as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility.
What began as service to people living in 30 villages is now rendering a wide variety of services to the entire Vadodara District, covering all the 1548 villages. The Foundation now reaches out to more than 1.9 million populations of Vadodara District, Gujarat, through its multifaceted programs.
The Foundation has diversified its work to encompass other allied activities such as livelihood through dairy cooperatives, savings groups and preservation of pithora art, preschool education, HIV/AIDS prevention and disaster relief and rehabilitation. The Foundation implements its activities in partnership with the Government of Gujarat, international NGOs and through the network of Civil Society and Community Based Organizations (CBO).
